Hi.

I have this "big" problem. When applying an Update on some of my users, they receive an error that in summary is related to the user's event log file being full. The problem, now, is that the Update Fails because of this.

Most of my users do not know that there is even something called an Event log on their computer(s).

The quietion now is, why should the applying of an Update be affected by an Event Log file that is full? How do I get around resolving this, i.e. I will not be able to clean up all the affected user's computers or have the time to take them through the steps needed to clear the file. Some of the clients are under very strict security policies that prohits them from accessing anything in the Administrative Tools by their respective companies.

Hello,

In order for this to occur, you must be using the AppLife Update Windows Service to elevate permissions of your updates.  Elevating permissions on behalf of a limited user is a significant event and as such, the AppLife Update Windows service writes a log event to the system when this action is taken.

If the system log is full, an exception is thrown and this will prevent an elevated update from proceeding.  With the current release of AppLife Update, the only resolution is to clear the event log, or change it's properties to overwrite old events.  The following Microsft artcile includes written  instructions on how to do so that you can forward on.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, the default log setting is to overwrite old events, so unless configured differently this should only affect Windows Xp systems.

This really should not be a widespread issue, as an Xp system with a full event log will likely be experiencing other symptoms related to the condition. It is in the best interest of your user to correct the condition.
