Hello to everybody...

i was wondering if is possible to change the service name that gets installed in the users computer?.

I beleive is shown in task manager as kjs.Applife.Update.Service.Exe. Is it possible to change it to a different custom name?

The process name cant be changed.  I could add this as a request for a future version of AppLife Update.  What is the reason for the request?

Please, count my vote for renaming it too.
No offense but when I first saw it in my task manager I thought that I caught a spyware or a trojan. The file name just looks a bit suspicious. I am concerned that some IT guy will try to yank it from the system and break the update process.

Renaming the service likely wont happen until the next major release, and even then most likely as a side by side service to the current service.  We hear your concerns and will address this in the future.

If I may add, a trojan or a virus seeks to hide from suspecting eyes, not stand out and shout here I am.  The long, readable and identifyable naming convention employed with all of AppLife Updates assemblies does catch your eye and might cause someone to say, "why do I have a Kjs.AppLife...." process running?  But shouldnt stand out as malware.  Thats just not how malware works.  I also suspect that this convention will catch favor as some point and you will start seeing more assemblies named in similar fashion.  Nevertheless, the issue is noted and will be addressed some time in the future.

I am developer myself, I understand you are not just going to jump and change it.   Angel Thank you for considering it.
I have seen malware with long multi-part names containing abbreviated descriptions. And believe me, I've met some of the IT people out there who think of themselves as gurus and here's what they would see if they were to google for Kjs AppLife:

Once again, thank you for even considering it for future releases!

Count my vote for the customizable path and name of the service. This would distinguish the Kinetic Jump software from other alternatives. The service and update procedure should not appear to be a third-party component to the end user. If fact, it should look like we've written the service and update process ourselves; a seamless integration into the products we're writing.

Kudos on the stability and effectiveness of the solution. I agree with aminkov... It would be best if we could customize the name to be "MyCompanyUpdateService.exe" or something like that.

This reply is a bit late, but I thought I'd update this thread to note that as of the AppLife Update 2.0 release, the update service was renamed to use a short service executable name (kjsausvc.exe).
